Christmas Market in Peer (B)

It was stone cold, but a very cosy Christmas Market in Peer (B). Nicole received us very well, and the people were all in a good mood. Santa Claus was there too, and of course we took pictures. On this occassion, our Jo put on some socks in X-mas style. :-)

Hamawé Roots Festival 2010

This remarkable festival in Western style, takes place every year at the Hamawé farm yard in Ethe near Virton, Belgium.
The mix of Country, Bluegrass, Hillbilly and Dixieland music is a very tastful combination.

The Oakcity Jazzband Maaseik was on Television in the VTM-serie "De Pfaffs", thanks to Sam Gooris at "Buitenbeenpop" in Leopoldsburg (B).

Dresden 2010!!

Thanks to our excellent Dixieland Show in the Elbe Garten at the Schillerwitzer Elbe Dixie festival this year, the Oakcity Jazzband was invited by festival director Joachim Schlese -in person!- to join the 40th International Dixielandfestival in Dresden.

From wednesday May 12 until sunday May 16 you can see and hear us every day on different locations in Dresden!

Nice detail: we are the only Belgian band (since years) at this festival!!

10th edition of Buitenbeen Popfestival

Happy Birthday!!
When we started the festival place was empty, but very short later, many visitors stood in rows waiting at the entrance! This was the best place for us to make some action. That other welcome act was also very pleasant to see and hear.
Yes, yes, we are together on a photo with Sam Gooris, the guy who's always in a good mood, and ready to joke around. Perhaps we'll be on TV some seconds in the reality-show "De Pfaffs”, because a camera-team was there too.
And what happened to Hubaer after the gig? The Oakcity Jazzband looks like a soap sometimes too! ;-)

Oakcity Jazzband at StadsTV Breda

Immediately after we came out of the reception at the Breda Jazzfestival last month May, Nic was put a microphone under his nose, by a reporter of the "StadsTV Breda". It was a pleasant interview, with music from our tune "At the Jazzband Ball"

30 years Marec

Last weekend the Oakcity Jazzband played at the Marec Harbour Festival . After the official speech several happy ladies gave us great response immediately!
It was lovely weather at harbour "de Spaanjerd", the glistening water and many sailboats and yachts made the atmosphere idyllic, in which we streetparaded. It was an unexpected and pleasant surprise that the sailors and yachters expressed their appreciation to our music by tooting their horns and sirens.
Totally max was our meeting with trumpeter Carlo Nardozza, he blew our tunes "Blue Monk" and "Sweet Georgia Brown" to a higher level!
At the terraces in "Heerenlaak" it really became a party, and at the boat dock we thought descendants of Bob Marley and Jimmy Hendrix joined the band!
Monika from Duren came over to this festival, and thanks to her we have great pictures to enjoy that day again.

Ich liebe so viel die Aachener Zeitung .......Mädchen

At the "Schlemmermarkt" in Wassenberg under the "Rosstower" we met 2 lovely newspaper promo-girls. Spontanuously and cheery they joined us during the song!
Frank shot this video ànd WOW his snare drums continues, he really is a man that can do 2 things at a time! :-)

Schlemmermarket Wassenberg

Hubaer! Cheers Mate!!

Also this year, the Oakcity Jazzband was invited at the "Schlemmermarket"-days in Wassenberg (Culinair Festival Germany). Again Hans, the organiser, was very satisfied of the big succes, because the sun, the food, the drinks and the cheerful music, were there in a perfect combination!

We had to miss our trumpetplayer Hubaer this time, and we told the people, who asked for him, that he was "im Knaster", in jail, but not for long anymore, because his helicopter was already reservated. (...and there were people who believed the gossip...)

Roel and Wim were very handsome stand-ins on trumpet, and Maurits played his soft saxofoon on one sultry evening.
...Still, we must say that Roel was almost perfect in his role of replacing Hubaer in all his facets.

Crazy Wednesday Breskens (NL)

At the dolle woensdag of August 5 in Breskens were 5 bands invited to play their cheerful music. Between many colorful stands we had a very amusing evening with lots of spectators. From the animated jamsession with the Scaldis Jazzband, the Jerrie Dixie Devils, the Original Zealandband, the Blues Rhythm Four, and the Oakcity Jazzband, our Frank took some pics and a video. We ask some patience for the film, but you can already watch the pictures here.

Carnaval Mundial Elsloo (NL)

"It was a very crowded house at Carnaval Mundial 2009 in Elsloo.
We've got a lot of nice reactions from the audience during the streetparade, and after that it looked more and more like Carnaval. The organisation can look back on a very succesful edition. We heard there were more than 15.000 visitors!
Nancy made a foto-report of our Streetparade and from Photographer Fons Verhoeve we got some beautiful close-ups. Nancy, Fons, many thanks! Martin, René, thanks for joining the band!

Riverboatshuffle Maastricht-Liège with Jazzclub Aachen

It was such a perfect day, yesterday, to do the Riverboatshuffle with the jazzclub of Aachen(D)!
In the underdeck, the Aix Dixie Jazzband was playing their great music, and on the upper- and outsidedeck the Oakcity Jazzband enjoyed the sun, the wind, and a great audience.
The boat was full of happy people from Aachen(D), Köln (D), Visé (B), Heerlen (NL)... They were brought in the morning with some busses tot the Maasboulevard in Maastricht.
It was also a warm welcome-back for Jo, our sousafonspeler, who had to miss several gigs, and also our partners accompagnied us on this lovely trip.
Monika and Rainer, our loyal fans from Duren (D), accepted our invitation to join us this day travelling to Liège(B) by boat. Again they have sent us a lot of excellent pictures, and we are very pleased to share these with everyone.

Streetparade Festival Celle (D)

Friday evening was to cold to have a summer atmosphere, nevertheless we had a lovely audience totally "in the mood".
Saturday was crowded, and from everywhere visitors of this festival gathered around us. Our meeting with the "Efkes Anders Jasskapel" from Eindhoven was cheerful, and we all loved it! When we marched from place to place, a lot of happy people joined us in the "Second Line". Fantastic!
We like to thank Sylvie again for being a charming guide!

It is always nice to see that some-one has the Oakcity Jazzband in mind àfter the big party.
Yesterday some pictures were sent to us by Steffen, the director of the Schillerwitzer Elbe Dixie Festival. Soon you'll find a review with all the bands on their website.

Breda Jazz Festival

Also in Breda, it was very crowded this year. 300.000 visitors at 4 days, as we heard from the press.
Vivi, a sweet lovely Sealand lady, lead us from the haven to the marketplace, where we gave the best of us on several cosy places. Our audience loved it! Everywhere they applauded, cheered and many, many pictures were made.

It is very kind of the festival organisation to send us a press article. We were frontpage news in BN De Stem on saturday Mai 23! (see slideshow)

We hope to be at the Breda Jazzfestival 2010, on their 40st edition! Then we can celebrate together our Oakcity 15 Years Jubilee!

Schillerwitzer Elbe Dixie Festival Dresden

It is indescribable what a fantastic weekend we have had with the Oakcity Jazzband! The Dresdener people have Dixieland blood, that's for sure! The Schillerwitzer Elbe Dixie Festival brought us to unknown heights, although the "Schwebebahn" from Dresden also has something to do with this. :-) Thanks to Nancy,Rolf and Jens we have great souvenirs with pictures and videos. Oakcity @ DBG Demonstration Aachen

We were asked to pull the DBG demonstration through the streets of Aachen (D). It was a little strange to see so much flags and slogans in our "Second Line". At last we came at the marketplace were some necessary speeches were spoken. Still, it was a lot of fun on stage to give all those people a musical intermezzo. Monika from Duren was there too, so we've got a lot of good pictures of this event.

Again this was fun! Monika, our charming photographer from Duren came over, and shot a lot of nice pics. The tour with the wagon and a tractor was not that nice, with all those holes and bulges in de road, but still we had a great laugh. Here under you can click to a movie Franky took from our tune "Sweet Georgia Brown". There was a local drummer "Franz Deutz" so Franky was "handsfree"!

Denmark to be continued...

Our friend Sven send us this great message, and a nice poster from his hand! Our performances in Koege and Ishoej in Denmark brought Sven to promote the Oakcity Jazzband to all his Danish contacts. With succes! At the end of August 2010 we will go back to Denmark! This time we are invited at some jazzfestivals and in a jazzclub. Perhaps we will do Hugos Kaelder in Koege again. We will have to stay a little longer... :-)

Oakcity Jazzband @ Kultur Kafé Ishöj (DK)

After bacon and eggs on Sunday morning (march 8) we drove with the minibus to the Kultur Kafé in Ishöj. In the hearth stood tables with reservationcards for this concert. We never saw this before.
Sven arrived after our soundcheck, and opened de doors for those who were already waiting outside.
We started with "Saint Louis Blues" in streetparade style, and it was an excellent choice to enter, every-one looked very amused.
Sven told us before that Danish people are kind of reserved and awaiting, and that it could take some time to get them in the mood.
We saw nothing of that! Already in the first break they asked for CD's and autographs!
The Second set started with our top act "The Sheik of Araby", although we were not sure to do it. The stir about Danish Cartoons a while ago, was in our minds. But the reaction on our Sheik and his beloved lady in the audience was great, every one clapped and smiled.
Also the humour in our english presentation was understood very well, we heard everybody laugh upon their sleeves.
We had to start our third set with a tune that might not fail here: "Copenhagen", and we dare to do a funny choreografy to it. The ice was broken, completely melted, and everything else you can say about this! And after we thanked Sven, with a Belgian present, in plain public, as organizer of this whole weekend, something unbelievable happened. A lady sneeked outside and brought back a enormous bouquet of roses for us. We couldn't have dreamed of this kind of sympathy, we especially played for her "Red Roses for a Blue Lady".
But more, at the end of the concert we received the ultimate respect a musician can get; They all gave us a standing ovation! These are moments to remember!
Afterwoods Sven told us that this didn't happen ever before, and that he was a very happy man that he could share in this succes!
It won't be the last time we're visiting Denemarken!

Oakcity Jazzband @ Hugos Vinkaelder

In the cosy center of Köge town in Denmark lies a beautiful Jazz pub! Sven, went there with us on friday evening (march 6) so we could see what it was all about. We loved the place immediately! There were a lot of the best Belgian Beers, but we tasted the very delicious local brewed beers from Köge. Almost 3 pm on saturday, we went to Hugo's Vinkaelder in streetparade style. The people at the marketplace looked very curious at us. At the pub, there mainly were women who came to chat and drink something after their shopping time. Still we succeeded to get every-ones attention, and we could give some women a special treatment that day. If you click HERE you'll get a slide-show of the pictures that Sven took from this concert. The Evidence

After our big succes in the Kultur Kafé of Ishoej (DK) last sunday (march 8, 2009) Sven - the organisor of our concerts in Denmark - guided the Oakcity Jazzband to the world famous little mermaid! He gave us the evidence that we were in Copenhagen!

Oakcity Jazzband on the road

Next Friday morning we will be on the road in our minibus to Koege in Denmark!! Sven, the organiser of our gigs, will be there to welcome us. He also looked after a cosy house, where we can stay those days. Hotels in Denmark, are not that cheap, and for 7 friendz this house surely will do. In Puttgarden (D) we cross the Ostsea with a ferry boat to Rödbyhavn (DK). From there it's only one more hour to go. The road to Denmark will be a lot of fun, I promise!
